Short learning notes you can put into practice today.
Read your first short sentence
Modern Standard Arabic · Beginner
Start with one sentence and give each word a meaning. Here is a simple introduction:
هَذَا كِتَابٌ.
This is a book.
Это книга.
| Arabic | Meaning | Перевод |
|---|
| هَذَا | this | это |
| كِتَابٌ | a book | книга |
In this present-tense sentence, Arabic does not need a separate word for “is.” Read from right to left, then return to the complete sentence instead of translating each word again.
For your next step, keep one useful word and find it in another sentence. Try our word of the day or explore the beginner section.
MSA or Egyptian: where to start?
Let what you want to read or say guide your choice.
- Modern Standard Arabic (MSA / Fus-ha) is a useful starting point for books, news and formal communication.
- Egyptian Arabic is useful for everyday conversations in Egypt and for understanding Egyptian films and other media.
They share much of their vocabulary and writing system, but pronunciation, word choices and grammar can differ. Keep track of which variety you are practising instead of assuming every expression works the same way in both.
ArabiGO focuses on MSA and Egyptian Arabic. Choose a short text or conversation that matches your goal and return to it regularly.
